Monday Musing – Spice of Life
Raise your hand if you need a vacation? We all need time to rest and recharge and sorry corporate but weekends are not enough. Those two days get used for personal life to-do’s. You have a wedding to attend but those dishes aren’t going to wash themselves, amiright?
So we all need time to relax.
As someone who works in education I hear my fair share of “at least you have summer’s off!” We’ve already worked those hours, k? Anyway, it’s tough trying to use any “vacation time” properly. First there’s the overwhelming amount of guilt and the impetus to be productive. Then there’s the pressure to enjoy your time before it’s gone.
So it’s July. I just wrapped up some work emails, folded the laundry, washed the dishes, wiped the counters, watered the garden, cleaned the bathrooms, vacuumed, mopped, and took out the trash. So now what? I’ve been sufficiently productive. Time to focus on something I love.

Cooking has always held a near and dear place in my soul. I love to get fancy in the kitchen and I recently came across some bittersweet news that an excellent spice shop I used to go to is closing down. They still have a store in Austin, TX and you can buy online BUT the coolest thing about this store was that they had EVERYTHING available to smell and taste. You could purchase in bags or glass jars of varying sizes and they had your most basic spice to the most particular. Did I mention that by and large the store was organized by region, so it was SUPER easy to shop from? *wipes tears* I’m ok. I’m ok.
So today I am planning my recipes and uses for these amazing new additions to my spice cabinet.
Today I am “productive,” but for ME.
This is my first step into truly relaxing.
